Set over the seven hills and bathed by the Tagus River, Lisbon is one of the most fascinating and cosmopolitan cities in Europe. Its history, culture and traditions will impress you. In the Portuguese capital you will be able to explore the narrow streets from the historic city center and walk alongside the river. Lisbon has been awarded the Best European Destination in 2019.
The potential inside of Lisbon is tremendous. You can visit it as a cultural trip, a business trip, as a relaxing city break experience or even at the start of a lovely tour across Portugal.
Staying and visiting the city center is an amazing experience since you will be able to learn and understand a bit more its development throughout the years. If you want to absorb all of Lisbon at once, we recommend you to find an amazing belvedere from where you can see all of it at once. Then try to look at the top of the hills to find S. Jorge Castle from the 12th Century. Look a bit down and you will see the lovely and cozy Alfama district, one of the most traditional places of the city. Now, move your eyes to the center and you will find downtown Lisbon, with its two infamous squares with statues of two very characteristic kings. All that area was destroyed by the 1755 earthquake and then rebuilt into what you can see today.
Exiting the belvedere and making your way towards the river, look for a tram and let it take you to the vibrant district of Belém where the Portuguese overseas discoveries are enhanced throughout the Belém Tower and the Jerónimos Monastery, both from the 16th century and part of the UNESCO World Heritage books.
Already in Belém you should try the traditional Pastel de Belém, a delicious custard tart made with egg cream developed by the monks and nuns that lived in the Jerónimos Monastery until the 19th century.
In order to end of your day with the highest of notes, enjoy a Fado Show paired with a lovely traditional dinner and beverages at one of the unique Fado Houses of the city.
