There are a few places in the world that seem to be embedded with magic and mysticism. Óbidos, a town from the Middle Ages, is one of these fine examples.
Any traveler arriving at Óbidos will be astonished by its medieval wall encompassing the old town that reminisces to ancient times. This charming and picturesque town is just a one-hour short trip from Lisbon, where you will have the chance to wander through the cobbled streets, such as the Rua Direita, and take some pictures of the colorful tiled houses. The castle, dating back to the 8th century, atop the hill, poses the town’s grandeur with its colossal towers and unique views all over theold town.
Known for its old and coveted bookstores, Óbidos isn’t only an open art gallery filled with history. For nature lovers, consider spending some time at the lagoon, the perfect hot spot for hiking or even playing golf. Acclaimed by the Portuguese, Óbidos’ delicacies excel in everything, especially for those who have a sweet tooth. Every spring, the Chocolate Festival presents a huge collection of different types of chocolate, crafted artistically, as well as a few activities during the event. However, its authentic trademark is the Ginjinha, a cherry liqueur embedded in a distilled Portuguese spirit drink that is tasted in a chocolate cup.
