The Portuguese countryside has much to offer and explore for avid travelers who crave a hiking adventure.

The picturesque and historic town of Marvão, located in the Alentejo region, is often sought for its challenging trails, panoramic viewpoints, and charming historical locations. In the mountains of São Mamede (Serra de São Mamede), even today we can admire the Arabic influence nestled here 500 years ago when the Moors settled a military refuge under the caliphate.

In modern times, when arriving at Marvão, you will be presented with the stunning view from afar of the 13th century castle that guards the whole town, resembling any Hollywood fantasy movie. Its Moorish-type architecture houses, decorated with beautiful ornaments invite anyone to spend a weekend enjoying Marvão’s culture, nature, and, definitely, gastronomy. Since it belongs to Alentejo, the Açorda is a distinguished dish, being a bread-type soup with garlic, olive oil, egg, and coriander. Other exquisite delicacies are the Black Pork, combining potatoes and clams; a plethora of smoked sausages; different goat, sheep, and cow cheeses among many other culinary delights.
