In between Nazaré and Fátima, in the middle of the country, there’s Batalha.
Much similar to Alcobaça for its art and architecture, this UNESCO World Heritage site also has a 16th century old Gothic/ Manueline jaw-dropping monastery, perfect for the
history buffers. Many academics embraced Batalha’s Monastery as one of the ultimate masterpieces of Portuguese architecture. The name itself is dedicated to a famous battle
in the late 1300s between the Portuguese kingdom against the Castilian/ Spanish kingdom, where João I was victorious and crowned king of Portugal.
This charismatic town is much more than religious architecture. Batalha packs its own distinct beauty when one strolls through the old quarters, entering the old cafes
and traditional stores, soaking up its cultural heritage and indulging your palate with authentic Portuguese flavors. Plus, its amazing location enables anyone to make short
and quick trips to Nazaré, Fátima, Alcobaça, and way more.
