Leaving Lisbon, on your way to the Algarve, the Arrábida Natural Park is the best destination for a quick stop, enjoying the green landscape just before the sandy dunes of the Algarve.
This green gem lies on the Arrábida mountain, along the coastline of Setúbal, which has nowadays a huge biodiversity that invites many hiking and trekking enthusiasts to enjoy several trails, either from beginner to experienced level or simply taking picnics facing the Atlantic Ocean. Blending both limestone cliffs with pristine beaches, during summer indulge yourself by sunbathing and swimming at the Galápagos and Penedo Beaches. Still, speleology fans can also take part in a hike in this park, especially since many caves and caverns can be uncovered alongside the trail that
could lead to hidden forests and insular areas.
Aside from this ecosystem, for those who love to soak the culture of a country while traveling, the Arrábida Park offers a few historical landmarks such as the S. Filipe and Albarquel Forts, and a 16th century old convent, the Arrábida Convent, just atop the cliffs with magnificent viewpoints.
